What do you think about Shay's description of a modle? Shay and Tally have a skewed veiw of our time, but what have they got right? (1 Paragraph)
I think they think a modle is an almost pretty ugly, They think that a modle starves themselves like how they learned in at school. They have some right and some wrong on this explaination. Most girls that struggle with weight do starve themselves, but i think they are idiots because they are hurting themselves more then helping.

"Lies" #25
Characterization: David
David is an ugly, about a couple of years older then Tally and Shay. He lives in the Smoke, and is very true to his City. He knows alot about the Rusties. I think Shay may have a crush on David.
Find a picture to represent what YOU think the smoke looks like and post it on your blog with an explaination of why you chose it.
The reason why I chose this picture is because it has Smoke in it, i mean that is the name of the city after all. The smoke is suppose to be a city of our time that we are living in now. Right now there is much pollution going on just like in this photo. That is why i chose the photo to descirbe the Smoke.Wednesday, February 24, 2010
"Bug Eyes" #24
List important events in the chapter from chronological order.
1. A helicopter lands and "unhuman creatures" came out of it with bug eyes.
2. They take Tally and puts her in the helicopter. She is scared;
3. They take off thier masks and Tally reliazes that they are Pretty Rangers.
4. They drop here off at Smoke.
Respond to the following Quote:
"...Tally was stuck out here in the wild foever. Ugly for life. Her only way home was to betray her friend. "
I think Tally thinks that she shouldnt have done what she did. Im still wondering if she knew what she would be getting herself into, would she have ever still became friends with Shay? I think tally should have never gotten into this whole big mess with Shay. I mean i know she missed Peris and stuff but couldnt she just go like 1 more month? Hopefully Tally will make it to Smoke safely, but i have a feeling something is going to go wayyyyyy wrong soon.

"Firestorm" #23
Give one example of each of these from the chapter: imagery, personification, and a simile.
Simile: "Her footsteps idnited with flame as she ran through the blackened flowers, like stabbing a poker into a slumbering fire."
Imagery: "Billowing clouds of smoke surrounded her, blotting out the sky. "
Personification: "a noise thundered to life on Tally's left, unmistakeable even above the roar of the fire."

"The Side That You Despise" #22
What do you think the flying machine was? Who was in it? Make a prediction.
I think that the flying machine was something that Special Circumstances made to spy on Tally. Since the Rusties didn'y have what they have now, then it was the perfect disguse because Tally didn't know what it was. I think the person inside of it was Dr. Cable or one of her workers or employees.

"The Worst Mistake" #21
Have you ever made yourself do something that you didn't want to do because you knew you had to?
Yes, my homework. /: I never want to do it but I have to for my grades sake. (:
Predict what you thik will happen next (i.e. Whats coming? )
I think Tally is doing a good job on following the directions. I think that she will finally get there and then realize that The Smoke is a great place, and want to stay there forever. So therefore, she won't contact Special Circumstances to come find her.

"Spagbol" #20
Invent a dried food you would take with you on your journey if you were Tally. What would it be? How would you make it?
It would be Ramen and i would make it the same way as Tally mase hers, by putting it in the water purifier.
Make a lisit of things you would miss about your home if you were forced to leave it as tally was.
I would miss:
Clothes,
Bathing,
Friends&Family,
A real bed,
Tv,
Cell phone.

"Leaving" # 19
Why do you think Tally ultimately decides to figure out where Shay is?
Because even though she made a promise to Shay, she made a promise to Peris first. She definitly does not want to be ugly forever, i mean, who would?

"Infiltrator" #18
Give a chronological list of important events that happened in the chapter.
1. Tally goes out for a midnight ride on her hoverboard.
2. She comes back and Peris is there. They talk about promises they have made to each other and Tally turning pretty.
3. She sleeps and then goes to the specials and talks to them about Shay and her dissapearence.

"Peris" #17
Why do you think Peris comes back? Support your answer with textual evidence.
I think Peris ulitimatley comes back for himself, and not for Tally. I think he wants to see Tally pretty. He wants her to come with him for his sake, and not hers.
"You'll love it, Tally. Being pretty is the best thing ever. And i'll enjoy it about a million times more once you're here with me."

"Ugly for Life" #16
Resond to the following quote:
"Everywhere she went, eyes looked away. But it was the most visble she ever felt."
I think what Tally means about this quote is that everyone notices her because she was suppose to get her operation but didnt. Even though everyone looks away from her in disapointment, she still feels visible because everyone knows her, is talking about her, and is watching her every move.

"Speacial Circumstances" #15
Summerize the chapter and highlight the important events in chronological order. Predict what you think will happen next.
Tally is taken to Special Circumstances center and is asked various questions about Tally and Shay's relationship and where Shay is. She is given the choice to help them find Shay or to never turn pretty. intense. (:
Characterization: Dr. Cable
Tally says in the book that he has sharp, grey eyes, and is very 'boring' and not quite pretty then all the other pretties. hes definatly a middle aged pretty. he is also very demanding. Not a nice person;

Summerize the chapter highlighting the important events in chronological order. Predict what you think will happen next.
Tally is on her way to the Hostpital to finally turn pretty. They make her wait for a hour and then tell her to go somewhere with them. I think Tally will no be able to do the operation. Something will come up and she will choose to go find Shay inside of turning pretty.

"Last Trick" #14 (a)
Respond to the following quote, What does it mean to you?
"We dont have to look like everyone else, Tally, and act like everyone else. Wve got a choice. We can grow up any way we want.
I think what Shay means by this is that she doesnt want to be like everyone else in the world. She wants to be different and not do what everyone else is doing. Shes trying to explain to Tally this but Tally wont listen, and she wants to be like everyone else. What will happen next?!

"Fight" #13
Two fights were presented in this chapter. Compare and Contrast both of them. List their similarities and differences. Why did each fight take place? What was the outcome of each one? (no less then one paragraph.
The first fight in this chapter was in front of the new uglies and they did it to exress how mean the uglies are to each other. The second fight in the chapter was over how Tally and Shay both disagree on being "pretty" or being "ugly". They both has completely different perspectives on the opinions. ( hah i sound smart! :D ) The outcome of the first one wa to frighten the new uglies and show how mean they are to each other. The second one turned out to be innocent, and they arent mad at each other. They were both just voicing their own opinions.

"Waiting For David" #12
What does the following quote from the chapter tell you about the city?
"That was one thinkg about being outside the city; it made all that nature stuff they tought in school seem a lot more useful. She remebered now how rain water fell on the mountains and soaked into the ground..."
It tell us that the city is all natural. She means that all the stuff they tought to you about in school seemed actually real when you were upon this city. Tally and Shay see and realize how different and how much things have changed since the Rusty Ruins. Shay says that she remembers the way the rainwater soaked into the ground; meaning she has seen it before and misses it.

"The Rusty Ruins" #11
Write a one paragraph summary of the chapter. Tell the important events in chronological order.
1.Tally and Shay are in the old town, The Rusty Ruins.
2. They are exploring the town and Shay shows Tally a roller coaster.
3. The two girls ride on the roller coaster with their hoverboards.
4. Shay doesnt tell Tally that a part of the roller coaster is broken, so whenever Tally is riding on it she starts to free fall and the metal braclet catches her.
5. Shay wants Tally to meet someone;
Find two simlies in the chapter and quote them, as well as the page number.
"A shaped emerged from the forest, a long spine that rose and fell like a forzen wave." p.63
"on the roller coaster, hoverboarding really was like being a bird." p.65

"Rapids" #10
In this chapter Tally says, "I kind of like being fooled about some things." Do you agree with Tally, or would you rather know the reality behind everything? why?
I wouldnt want to know everything because than whats the surprise of the being fooled? I dont completely agree with tally on this particular quote.
Find information about the origin of white water rafting and post it here, along with the website URL.
white water rafting is aboat that you ride on while you use wooden sticks, or ohers, to get you farther down the river. You usually go white water rafting in a river with a ton of rapids. Safety is very important while doing this becuase if you are not safe then you can easily fall out of the boat and drown or cause someone else to. The actual raft is normally made out of strong rubber filled with air.

"Pretty Boring" #9
Describe the Rusty Ruins. What are they? What happened during this time period?
The Rusty Ruins is a old town that has been abandoned. To the Uglies, Pretties, Middle Pretties, Littleies, and ect, the time period that we live in now is like the stone age to them in their time period. The Rusty Ruin was a town in our time period. It was also when "there had been too many people, when eveeryone was incredibly stupid and ugly."
Define peer presure. Explain about a time it has happened to you or to someone you know and explain the situation in a paragraph.
To me, peer preasure is someone or something tries to convince you to do something you dont or are not sure about doing weither it is right or wrong. One time when i was in 5th grade i had 2 very good friends of mine. One wanted me to go to their house, and so did the other. I didnt know wich one to choose, and i didnt want to lie and try to get out of going to ethier of them. So to solve the problem of having to choose between 2 of my bestfriends, i just invited them to both come over to my house. (:

"Facing the Future" #8
Reflect on each quote in the chapter. What does each mean to you?
"Making ourselves feel ugly is not fun..."
I agree, its not fun. But to them, or Tally, she thinks looking and imagining to be pretty is fun.
"This whole games is designed to make us hate oursleves."
I agree with Shay, this game does seem to e desgned to make the uglies feel ad aout themselves.
"Everyone judged everyone based on their apperance. People who are taller got better jobs... people killed one another over stuff like having different skin color."
Umm, im not sure what to say to this one but i can see how it is a possibilty in the book the Uglies.
"Its the only way to make people feel equal."
Why would you want to be equal? Being yourself is the best kind of personality.

"Wipeout" #7
Think of another, book, movie, or comic (exc) in wich people use hover boards. How are they used? If possible, post a video of this.
The movie Wall-E is about a robot left on Earth to make it more suitable for living. Meanwhile, all the humans on the planet have been moved to a space station, waiting for Wall-E to get done cleaning the Earth, so they can return to their home planet. The scientist at the space station have made more technical luxeries including hoverboards. The link below is a scene from the movie Wall-E at wich people are falling off their hoverboards.

Why do you think the new pretties don't come back to Uglyville to vist? Describe all their physical & mental transformation into new pretties. :
1. I think the reason why new pretties do no go back to Uglyville is because they belive they are better then them, and they do not need to see their old friends. They have way too much fun in New Pretty Town to go and vist old, boring, ugly Uglyville.
2. The mental transformations are that they think the uglies are worthless; pretties belive they are so much better and prettier then they are. Physical qualities include new skin, bigger and prettier eyes, skinny, perfect skin, and ect.

"Shay" #6
Write one paragraph summary of this chapter-
Tally is hiding in the "pleasure garden" because she had pulled a false fire alarm in order to not to get caught. She is in the garden when she bumps into a girl named Shay, who is also a ugly. Shay is also there spying on her old friends who had become pretties. They are trying to escape;
What have you learned about Shay? is she like Tally? Make a prediction about what will happen between Tally and Shay.
I thik Shay and Tally are both alike and different in many ways. Alike by both missing their friends who had become pretties, but also different by personality. I think Shay and Tally will become very good friends.
